When banner ads and news items clash

Just doing my regular morning scour of the web, and came across this article in SMH. The article is about a faulty Sony product that nearly burnt a house down… but that’s not what caught my eye. What did was this :

Notice anything *slightly* odd about this?

An article about a Sony Laptop going bad, SPONSORED by Sony!?! WTF?

Interesting Threadless article on 37 Signals

My boss just pointed out an article over at 37 Signals about Threadless, my favourite Tshirt company. If the figures quoted in the article are correct, they are doing a fine business, and good luck to them. The reason people (like me) keep coming back is because it treats us the way we want to be treated.

The shirts are cool, the UI is spot on, and the community rocks.

I think Sydney FC had the flu too!

How come every time we go to the football it’s the coldest day on record?!

Went to see Sydney FC take on Melbourne Victory, and although I was a little flat with the flu, even I could have stopped the second goal by Archie!!! Anyway, great night had by all – including the birds, who were feasting on moth and ego alike.

And Matteo thought us aussies didn’t know joga bonito :) hehehe.

This is what I feel like

I hate the flu!

I hate the flu.

Coming Zune….

Whatever else Microsoft are doing wrong with Vista et al, the visuals they are using for the imminent release of their much-hyped Zune player are refreshingly non-MS. Check out their Coming Zune website. Rather nice.

Real time DIGG visualisation

Digg Labs have a very interesting visualisation of articles as they get dugg (or is that diggs, or digged?). Just how useful it is im not quite sure – but it’s intresting nevertheless. Especially when in the context of communicating meaningful statistics to clients.

Joshua Davis

Amazing artwork and Flash experiments from an incredibly gifted individual. From the guy who brought you PrayStation, Josh Davis is still doing what he does best, and I was looking at some of his work from the past 5 years, and to this day it still amazes. Anyway, he has a diary of some of his past work, check it out. Here’s a cracker post to whet your whistle : unused Tool artwork; oh and another : Maxalot exhibition.

A new kind of street art…

Certainly the idea of street art isn’t new, and there are numerous places on the web where you can find great evidence of similar quality – but I hadn’t found anything as subtle as this before.

If you look closely at the picture below, the female model appears to have a tattoo on her left shoulder… and she does. It’s just that the tattoo is actually one of those cheap stick-on ones you find at the bottom of your chip packet, or in the shopping center hanging in the chocolate aisle. The thing I liked about this is that for most people, it wouldn’t afford a second glance. And regardless of whether the person who put it there meant it, it has become (in my opinion) a great example of subtle and subversive street art.
