Whatever else Microsoft are doing wrong with Vista et al, the visuals they are using for the imminent release of their much-hyped Zune player are refreshingly non-MS. Check out their Coming Zune website. Rather nice.
Real time DIGG visualisation
Digg Labs have a very interesting visualisation of articles as they get dugg (or is that diggs, or digged?). Just how useful it is im not quite sure – but it’s intresting nevertheless. Especially when in the context of communicating meaningful statistics to clients.

Joshua Davis
Amazing artwork and Flash experiments from an incredibly gifted individual. From the guy who brought you PrayStation, Josh Davis is still doing what he does best, and I was looking at some of his work from the past 5 years, and to this day it still amazes. Anyway, he has a diary of some of his past work, check it out. Here’s a cracker post to whet your whistle : unused Tool artwork; oh and another : Maxalot exhibition.

A new kind of street art…
Certainly the idea of street art isn’t new, and there are numerous places on the web where you can find great evidence of similar quality – but I hadn’t found anything as subtle as this before.
If you look closely at the picture below, the female model appears to have a tattoo on her left shoulder… and she does. It’s just that the tattoo is actually one of those cheap stick-on ones you find at the bottom of your chip packet, or in the shopping center hanging in the chocolate aisle. The thing I liked about this is that for most people, it wouldn’t afford a second glance. And regardless of whether the person who put it there meant it, it has become (in my opinion) a great example of subtle and subversive street art.

Google and YouTube….
Well, if you’ve been living under a rock… Google and YouTube have joined forces. Well, to put it more bluntly, Google have gobbled up YouTube. $1.65 billion!! Nuff said…
Here is an article written not long ago that gives the service a new cool name : GooTube! hehehe.
Interestingly, if you use Googles own Google Trends, YouTube doesn’t seem to be as popular as all that… maybe they made this tool just so they could buy the tube for a little bit less!!
I wonder how it will change things – if at all…

Digital white board
Tell me THIS isn’t a cool invention My post name probably doesn’t do this justice, it’s not just a digital white board – its more about the technology behind the drawing application that’s cool. Check it out.

Real world banner ad? Or am I just losing it!
Something Ive been meaning to do for a while now is reflect on a billboard space right outside my lounge room window. The billboard takes up just about as much space visually as a banner ad at the top of my browser window, with a similar aspect ratio as well… the only difference is that its a long way away. And the thing im interested in is how my perception of this billboard has changed in recent months. It’s like im looking at a huge static GIF… or that my window IS actually a “window”, and not the real kind… has the world become a giant simulacra and I didnt notice?
Anyway, in this day and age of ugly, unthoughtful banner ads, its quite refreshing to see one that doesn’t animate!! (Ed – some banners aren’t all that bad… at least not the ones I make!! Hehehe).

Flash player 9 for Linux
Old news for some, but welcome news none-the-least, especially for those that are making the switch to Linux and Ubuntu. Read an interview here with Mike Melanson, the lead engineer on the project. Big news I guess, cause with the whole Macromedia/Adobe hand over and Flash 8x player, Linux got overlooked and there was fear that that would be it for Flash on Linux.
So never fear… the future is bright. And some of the things the new player can do… very neat. Just the other day, over at the Adobe Labs they released some new functionality in the beta release, including full screen Flash, no chrome, nothing. Interesting eh?
